Before you undergo surgery, be sure to describe in detail what you would like improved. Your surgeon will be able to determine whether your expectations are realistic so be sure to be specific. A few options to discuss are the implant shape, surface, size and volume, placement and where the incision will be made. Your surgeon will examine your breasts and discuss any other considerations involved.

Please notify your physician of any medical conditions such as heart, liver or lung disease, poor blood circulation / family history of blood clots or diabetes. It is important to discuss your medical history thoroughly. If you are a smoker, be sure to make your physician aware. Smoking increases the risk of complications during surgery, so if you smoke, be sure to quit for at least 2 weeks prior to your operation.

You should discuss future breastfeeding with your surgeon so that they are careful not to damage the milk ducts. Breast feeding with implants has been reported safe by the Institute of Medicine.

You will not be allowed to drive after your surgery so it is important to arrange a reliable family member or friend to take you home.

There are certain medications to avoid before surgery and required medical exams need to be taken. Certain foods and drinks need to be avoided and you will need a prescription of an anti-nausea pill to take on the morning of the surgery. These are all specific instructions that you will be provided with prior to surgery by your surgeon in order to have a safe experience.

During recovery, you will be unable to lift heavy objects and will need time to relax – Clean the house and do your chores prior to surgery so there will be no need to worry while recovering.

It is recommended to take your nausea pill about an hour before other medications to decrease nausea. Other recommendations are to have some over-the-counter anti-acids, medications, tissues and some cold drinks including cola or a sports drink next to you. Too much water after surgery can make you more nauseated.

To decrease the risk of skin damage, do not tan for one week before and six weeks after your surgery.
