Pre and Post Operative Care

Choosing the size of the implant is an important and personal decision. Most people prefer to have a breast size in proportion to the rest of their body. This can be proportionally large, medium or small. Dr Lim will assist you with this selection depending on your chest size and breast base measurements.

Placement of the implant
The placement of the implant will depend on the amount of breast tissue that is available to hide the implant so that it cannot be seen or felt. In general, those with minimal breast tissue will benefit from sub muscular (under the muscle) placement to give more cover over the implant. This prevents visible or palpable rippling of the implant. Sub muscular placement also reduces the risk of capsular contracture.

The surgery
The procedure takes about an hour and a half and is generally performed as a day surgery procedure in an accredited hospital. However, some patients may prefer to stay in hospital overnight.
Following surgery you will wake up with a firm bandage around your chest. Dr Lim will review your progress later in the day and fit you into a post-operative bra and implant stabiliser before your discharge.
Upon discharge a script for antibiotics and analgesia will be provided. Dr Lim’s staff will keep in contact with you after the procedure to monitor your progress and attend to any queries or needs you may have. Dr Lim will review you a week after your discharge. Subsequent reviews at one, three and six months and appointments for these will be made after each visit.

Our goal is to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible. Dr Lim and the Nurse Consultant will take as much time with you as is necessary to answer any questions you may have.
